Some buyers would rather pay with the skins in their Steam inventory than with a card. They may not have a card, may not want to use one with a store they’ve just found, or may prefer to spend CS2 or Rust items they no longer use. Taking skins as payment lets them check out anyway. It also brings Steam’s rules into your checkout: trade holds, reversals and a provider in the middle. Here’s how it works and what to plan for.
What happens when you accept CS2 skins as payment
- At checkout the buyer picks skins as their way to pay.
- They’re sent to Skinloop’s page, where they choose CS2 or Rust skins from their Steam inventory to cover the order. Skinloop prices everything in US dollars.
- The trade goes through Steam, and Skinloop reports the payment to ShopFast through a signed webhook.
- ShopFast checks that the report is genuine, for that checkout and for the exact total, then delivers the order.
The buyer comes back to their order on your store afterward. Like every payment on ShopFast, nothing is delivered on the buyer’s word: the payment has to be confirmed by the provider itself (how every payment is checked).
CS2 trade holds: why some orders wait
Steam can hold a CS2 trade for up to eight days before the items move. On ShopFast those orders wait and are delivered once Skinloop confirms the trade, never earlier. That protects you, but a buyer who expected instant delivery may not know why their order is still pending.
Tell them before they pay. A line on your product page, in the product description or in your checkout instructions saves a lot of “where is my order” messages. If speed matters for a product, put a faster way to pay, such as crypto to your own wallet or a card, above skins in your payment order.
Reversals: the skins version of a chargeback
A skins payment can be undone. A payment Skinloop reverts before it completes pays no order. One reverted after delivery counts as a lost chargeback on that order.
Waiting for confirmation covers most of the risk, but not all of it. A few habits help:
- Know what a chargeback ends. Access that runs over time, such as Telegram access, is removed on a chargeback. A key the buyer has already seen can’t be taken back.
- Let history count. A buyer’s chargebacks at your store feed Fraud Shield’s risk score, so a repeat offender scores higher next time (Fraud Shield).
- Block when it’s clear. When you cancel or refund a held order, you can add the buyer’s email, IP and device to your blocklist in the same step.
- Write it down. Say in your refund policy how you treat reversed trades.
What a chargeback means for each payment model is in buyer protection.
What you need to connect Skinloop
| You need | Where it goes |
|---|---|
| A Skinloop API key | Pasted in ShopFast, in Money → Payments |
| Your store’s address | Added in Skinloop as a redirect origin |
| ShopFast’s webhook address | Added in Skinloop, so it can report payments |
| The webhook’s signing secret | Pasted back in ShopFast, so every report is verified |
| A store that sells in USD | Skinloop prices in US dollars only |
If your Skinloop key allows only one game, say which in Games. Once connected, place a small order with skins to see the whole flow before buyers do.
Is a skins checkout right for your store?
Skins make sense when three things are true:
- Your buyers play CS2 or Rust. Think stores that sell game keys, Discord roles for gaming communities, or other products for players.
- Some orders can wait. Trade holds mean not every skins order is instant.
- Your store sells in US dollars. A euro or pound store can’t offer Skinloop.
Products for players also come with rules. ShopFast doesn’t allow game cheats, hacks, spoofers or anti-cheat bypasses, or accounts a game doesn’t let you transfer (what you can sell). Read Valve’s and Skinloop’s own terms as well before you go live.
Then watch your first few weeks. If buyers keep asking about orders waiting on a trade hold, make the wait clearer on your product pages or move skins further down your payment order.
Skins next to your other ways to pay
A skins checkout works best as one option among several, not the only door into your store:
- Order and rules. Checkout rules set the order of your payment methods, and rules per method by buyer country and order total.
- Failover. If a payment fails, buyers get one-tap buttons for your next ways to pay, with their details kept.
- Fees. Skinloop is your own gateway, so ShopFast takes no fee on those orders; only Skinloop’s own fees apply. Check how Skinloop pays you out before you rely on it.
For other buyers without cards, gift card payments with Binance or Steam cards are reviewed by hand before delivery. Fraud and reversals across every method are covered in how to prevent chargebacks on digital goods, and every option is compared in payment methods for digital products.
Step by step
1. Get a Skinloop API key
Create your Skinloop account and an API key. Note whether the key covers both CS2 and Rust or only one game.
2. Paste it in ShopFast
In Money → Payments, pick Skinloop and paste the API key. Your store must sell in US dollars. If the key allows one game, choose it under Games.
3. Point Skinloop at your store
In Skinloop, add your store's address as a redirect origin and ShopFast's webhook address, then paste the webhook's signing secret back in ShopFast.
4. Test a small order
Place a small order on your store and pay with skins. It's delivered once Skinloop confirms the trade.
Questions sellers ask
Which skins can buyers pay with?
CS2 and Rust skins from their Steam inventory, through Skinloop. If your Skinloop key covers only one game, buyers pay with that game's skins.
Why is an order paid with skins still waiting?
Steam can hold a CS2 trade for up to eight days. The order waits and is delivered as soon as Skinloop confirms the trade.
Can I accept skins if my store sells in euros?
No. Skinloop prices in US dollars only, so your store has to sell in USD to offer it.
What happens if a buyer reverses the trade?
If Skinloop reverts the payment before it completes, no order is paid or delivered. If it's reverted after delivery, it counts as a lost chargeback on that order.
Does ShopFast take a fee on skins payments?
No. Skinloop is your own gateway, so ShopFast takes no fee on those orders. Skinloop's own fees apply.
