> To sell game keys, get them from the developer, the publisher or an authorized distributor, list each game with one option per platform, region or edition, and give each option its own key pool. ShopFast hands every buyer one unused key the moment payment confirms, on every plan, with replacements and Fraud Shield built in.

Game key buyers are impatient and careful at the same time. They want the key seconds after paying, and they want to be
sure it will redeem on their platform, in their country, for the edition they picked. A good game key store answers
all of that before checkout and delivers without a human in the loop. Here is how to set one up and keep it clean.

## Where can you get game keys to sell?

Where your keys come from decides whether you have a business at all. The sources that hold up:

- **Your own game.** Developers can sell keys for their own titles from their own store.
- **The publisher.** A direct agreement to sell a publisher's keys.
- **An authorized distributor.** Wholesale distributors that are licensed to supply resellers.

Keys bought with stolen cards, leaked from a promotion or pulled from someone else's account are not allowed on ShopFast
([what you can sell](https://shopfa.st/legal/acceptable-use)). They are also bad stock: platforms and publishers can revoke keys that
were obtained fraudulently, and then your buyer holds a dead key and you hold the refund. Keys given out free, for
press or as part of a bundle often come with terms that forbid resale, so read the terms of the platform (Steam, a
console store, a launcher) and the publisher for every batch you buy.

## What buyers check before they pay

A key that won't redeem where the buyer lives turns a sale into a dispute, even when the key itself is fine. Put these
details where buyers look, not at the bottom of a long description.

| Detail | Why it matters | Where to show it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Platform | A Steam key won't redeem on another launcher or console | Product title and option name |
| Region | Many keys only redeem in certain countries or regions | Option name and description |
| Edition | Standard and deluxe editions include different content | Option name |
| Delivery | Instant, or a preorder with a release date | Product page |
| How to redeem | First-time buyers may not know where to enter a key | The message sent with every order |

## Build your game key store around options

Sell each game as **one product**, with an option for every platform, region and edition you stock. Each option has
its own price and its own key pool, so a buyer who picks the European Steam key gets a key from that pool and nothing
else. Option names should be literal: "Steam, Global" and "Steam, Europe" beat "Standard" and "Standard EU".

Keys are sealed (encrypted) as you add them, and a key you paste twice is dropped. Each option has a low-stock
threshold, so you hear about a pool running out before buyers see the option as unavailable. For games that aren't out
yet, key products support **preorders**. If you sell CD keys or codes for older PC games, the same setup applies: the
option name just says which launcher or service the code redeems on.

## Instant game key delivery, and what buyers see after paying

When the payment confirms, checkout takes one unused key from the option's pool and shows it on the order page. The
same key is in the receipt email and in the buyer's library, so a lost email never means a lost key. Two buyers paying
at the same moment still get different keys.

Use the **message** every product can send to its buyers for redemption steps: which app to open and where the key
goes. Keep it short and specific to the platform. More on how this works across product types in
[automatic delivery for digital products](/guides/instant-delivery).

## When a key doesn't redeem

Even good stock has the odd bad key. Set a **replacement policy** on each product: a time window, how many replacements
a key gets, and whether you want a reason or a screenshot. Buyers press "Key not working?" on their order page, and a
fresh key comes from the same option's pool while the old one is revoked.

For game keys, review replacements yourself and ask for a screenshot of the platform's error. "Already used" is the
claim a dishonest buyer makes most easily, and a screenshot separates a real activation error from a second free key.

## Keep stolen cards away from your keys

Game keys are instant and resellable, which makes them a target for people testing stolen cards. **Fraud Shield**
checks every checkout with blocklists, VPN and proxy checks, velocity limits, a risk score and your own rules. It can
ask for an email code or 3-D Secure first, and it holds flagged orders until you approve them
([Fraud Shield](https://shopfa.st/docs/selling/fraud-shield)). Add **order limits** per payment method, such as a lower card limit on a
buyer's first order, and per-customer limits on a hot new release
([order limits](https://shopfa.st/docs/selling/order-limits)). The wider playbook is in
[preventing chargebacks on digital goods](/guides/prevent-chargebacks).

## Payment methods gamers actually use

Cards through Stripe or PayPal are the baseline, and with your own gateway ShopFast takes no fee on those orders. Game
key shops often add more:

- **Crypto** to your own wallet: BTC, LTC, ETH, USDC and USDT, with no processor fee
  ([crypto for digital products](/payments/crypto)).
- **CS2 and Rust skins** through Skinloop, for USD stores. CS2 trades can be held for up to 8 days, and the order is
delivered when Skinloop confirms ([skins as payment](/payments/skins)).
- **Steam or Binance gift cards** sent as payment, which you redeem and approve by hand before anything is delivered
  ([gift cards as payment](/payments/gift-card-payments)).

## Grow past your own storefront

- **Become a supplier.** If you hold more stock than you can sell, the wholesale portal and the
[reseller API](https://shopfa.st/docs/guides/reseller-api) let other stores act as your game key resellers.
- **Sell where your buyers talk.** Many game communities live on Discord, where members can buy with /buy
  ([how to sell on Discord](/guides/sell-on-discord)).
- **Get found in search.** Product pages carry structured data with one offer per option, and Google Merchant Center
feeds are built in ([store SEO](https://shopfa.st/docs/store/seo)). See
[SEO for digital product stores](/guides/seo-for-digital-product-stores) for the rest.

## Step by step

1. **Create one product per game.** In Products → Add product, pick License key. Use the game's name as the title and add the cover art, a short description and the system requirements.
2. **Add an option for each platform, region and edition.** Create options such as Steam Global, Steam Europe and Deluxe Edition, each with its own price. Put the platform and region in every option name.
3. **Load each option's keys.** Paste or upload the keys into each option's pool. They are sealed as they arrive and duplicates are dropped. Set a low-stock threshold for each option.
4. **Set the replacement policy and fraud rules.** Choose how many replacements a key gets and whether you review them, then turn on Fraud Shield and set a lower card limit on first orders.
5. **Connect payments and run a test sale.** Connect a gateway or your own crypto wallet in Money → Payments, then press Simulate first sale. It delivers a TEST- key and never touches your real pools.

## Questions sellers ask

### Is it legal to sell game keys?

It depends on where the keys came from and the terms they came with. Keys from the developer, the publisher or an authorized distributor are fine to sell on ShopFast; stolen, leaked or fraudulently bought keys are not allowed, and the platform can revoke them anyway.

### Can I sell Steam keys on my own website?

Yes, if you have the right to sell them. A Steam key is sold like any other key: one pool per option, delivered the moment payment confirms. Read Steam's and the publisher's terms for the keys you hold before you list them.

### How do I handle region-locked keys?

Give each region its own option with its own key pool, and put the region in the option name, not only in the description. Buyers pick the one that works where they live, and the wrong key never goes out.

### What if a buyer says the key was already used?

Set a replacement policy that asks for a screenshot of the error and sends requests to you for review. When you approve, a fresh key comes from the same option's pool and the old one is revoked.

### Can I take preorders for games that aren't out yet?

Yes. Key products support preorders, so you can take orders before your keys arrive. Say clearly on the product page when the key will be delivered.

### Can other stores resell my game keys?

Yes. The wholesale portal and the reseller API let other stores buy from you and sell under their own name, while your keys stay in your pools.
